Media release: Multimillion-dollar extension for Aveley Secondary College

  • New $4.2 million build at Aveley Secondary College will see second storey addition for additional classroom facilities
  • Extra space for 200 students
  • Project is in addition to Stage two build underway at the school

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today announced a $4.2 million expansion at Aveley Secondary College.

The expansion is in addition to the second stage of construction works being delivered under the Public Private Partnership.

A second storey will be built on one of the existing teaching blocks to create an additional eight classrooms, providing permanent space for an additional 200 students.

Stage two - which commenced in November 2019 - will include a performing and visual arts building as well as a senior learning community and lecture theatre.

Aveley Secondary College opened in 2018 and includes an education support centre catering for students with disability.

Predicted enrolments at Aveley Secondary College are expected to continue to grow significantly and the planned expansion will help cater for this growth.

Stage two will be completed for the 2021 school year.

The additional classrooms are expected to be completed by December 2020.

The McGowan Government is investing more than $450 million in 2019-20 to build new schools and upgrade existing facilities across the State, creating jobs for Western Australians and ensuring students have access to modern education facilities.

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“Students at Aveley Secondary College have access to state-of-the-art facilities including a commercial kitchen and outstanding sporting grounds as well as a dedicated education support hub.

“As a new school - opening for the first time in 2018 - all classrooms are also fitted with the latest in modern technology.

“Projected enrolments at the school are expected to continue to increase, so this extra funding boost will no doubt be welcomed by the school community.

“With stage two of the school’s development underway, plus an extra injection of funds for more classrooms, students will continue to have access to a high-quality education, close to home.”

Comments attributed to Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:

“The expansion of the new college will help students continue to thrive in a dynamic learning environment.

“As a proud foundation board member of Aveley Secondary College, I’m so pleased to see the College go from strength to strength.

“The additional classrooms will make a huge difference to our kids’ learning outcomes and help meet the needs of our fast-growing population.”

Comments attributed to Aveley Secondary College Board Chair Denise Williams:

“Today’s announcement of extra funding for additional classrooms for the stage two build is welcomed and is an invaluable investment in our secondary college.

“We are delighted our students will continue to have the opportunity to flourish and strive for success in the best learning facilities.”
